What is a LOSS Team?
Local Outreach to Survivors of Suicide (LOSS) is an active postvention model designed to offer immediate, compassionate support to individuals and families impacted by a suicide loss.
In the immediate aftermath of a traumatic loss, specially trained teams of two or more volunteers proactively reach out to individuals and families, offering connection, understanding, and practical resources. Each LOSS team includes at least one volunteer who is a survivor of suicide. Their lived experience of navigating this unique and complex grief fosters an immediate sense of connection and hope.
LOSS Teams approach every family with sensitivity and respect. Their role is not to intrude, but to walk alongside survivors – offering a calm, steady presence during the initial moments of an unimaginable loss. By connecting individuals to community resources, LOSS Teams help bridge the gap between tragedy and healing. They become an instillation of hope for new survivors.
Suicide loss isn’t something you’ll ever ‘get over’ – but you will get through it
